A customer asked me what the main differences are between Immidio FlexProfiles 7 and RES Software Workspace Manager 2011 Express edition. Because I’m not familiar with the FlexProfiles product from Immidio, I only have seen the demo once. So I wanted to download both products and compare not only the products them self, but also how you can get it.

RES Software Workspace Manager 2012 announced

Yesterday I was at the RES Software PartnerFocus 2012 in Den Bosch. One of the session they showed Workspace Manager 2012!

One of the cool things that was shown yesterday was: Workspace Manager 2012. During every training of Workspace Manager I get the same question:

Do you know your Citrix XenApp Zone Data Collector?

Well most of you will say that’s easy, you just go to the Zones and look at the Most Preferred server. That’s wrong, because it shows you only the Data Collector that you have set. Not the actual current Data Collector for that zone.

So how do you know which XenApp Server is actually the current Zone Data Collector? With the Qfarm command you can find out the actual Data Collector. At the end of the line you’ll see D for Data Collector.

Ready to upgrade to Automation Manager 2012?

Soon Automation Manager 2012 is officially available and not any more as a release candidate. A lot of changes have been made again, thanks to the boys and girls at RES Software. Where in the past they just gave us a .WUP file, upgrade and go, we now have to actively check and upgrade the Automation Manager 2011 before we can upgrade to Automation Manager 2012.

Why has RES Software made those changes? Because of upgraded Dispatcher, known as Dispatchers+. I will get back to that role in a future blog.  For now let’s get started and prepare the Automation Manager 2011 so that we can upgrade. Read the rest of this entry »
